Gorillas: Strong and Smart
Gorillas are big animals that live in forests. They are both very strong and very smart. Here are some easy steps to understand why other animals usually leave them alone.
- They are very strong
Gorillas have big arms and can lift heavy things. A big male gorilla, called a silverback, can look very scary when he stands up or beats his chest. That shows other animals to stay away. - They are smart
Gorillas can solve simple problems, remember places where food is, and take care of babies. They can use sticks to help reach things sometimes. - They live together
Gorillas live in families. Many gorillas together look bigger and louder, so predators are less likely to try to attack. - Predators usually avoid them
Because gorillas are big, loud, and defend their family, most dangerous animals do not try to fight adult gorillas. Very rarely, a leopard might try to take a baby, but that is not common. - People are the biggest danger
Sadly, the biggest problems for gorillas are people who cut down trees or hunt them. We can help by protecting forests and being kind to animals.
Gorillas are gentle with their families and clever when they need to be. You can draw a gorilla, pretend to beat your chest like a silverback (safely and gently!), and remember to love and protect animals and their homes.
