Tigers: King of the Jungle
Tigers are big, strong cats. People often call a tiger the "king of the jungle" because it is very powerful and an important hunter in its home.
Where tigers live
- Tigers do not usually live in jungles full of vines. They live in forests, grasslands, and swamps.
- They need places with lots of trees, tall grass, and water.
How tigers hunt (step by step)
- Hide quietly: A tiger moves very slowly and hides in the grass or behind trees so animals do not see it.
- Use its stripes: The tiger's stripes help it blend into tall grass, like camouflage.
- Stalk: The tiger sneaks closer to its prey without making noise.
- Ambush: When it is close enough, the tiger makes a quick run and grabs the prey.
- Strong and fast: Tigers use their big muscles and teeth to catch and hold the animal.
Do tigers copy other animals' voices?
Tigers make many sounds: roars, growls, and chuffing (a friendly puffing sound). Sometimes animal sounds can sound a little like each other. Scientists have seen tigers make sounds that might attract other animals, but this is not like talking or pretending like a person.
So: sometimes a tiger's noise might help it trick an animal, but most of the time tigers hunt by being quiet, using their stripes, and surprising the prey.
Safety tip
Tigers are wild animals and can be dangerous. If you ever visit a place where tigers live, stay with grown-ups and follow the ranger or guide rules so everyone stays safe.
Fun fact: Every tiger has a different pattern of stripes — like a tiger's own fingerprint!
