How Tigers Hunt
Tigers are big cats that catch food in a special way. Here are the main steps, explained simply for a 7-year-old.
1. Be very quiet
Tigers walk on soft paws. Their paws have pads that make their steps quiet. They move slowly and carefully so the animal they want to catch does not hear them. It is a bit like playing hide-and-seek and trying not to be found.
2. Use stripes to hide
Tigers have orange fur with black stripes. The stripes help break up their shape. In tall grass or the shadows of the forest, the tiger blends in and is hard to see. That is called camouflage — it helps them hide from the animal they are hunting.
3. Surprise and pounce
When a tiger is close enough, it suddenly runs very fast and jumps on the prey. This surprise attack gives the prey little time to escape. Tigers use their strong legs to leap and their sharp teeth and claws to catch the animal.
Other helpful things tigers have
- Strong legs for a quick burst of speed.
- Sharp claws to grab and hold on.
- Great night vision so they can see well in the dark.
Remember: tigers are wild animals. They are amazing to learn about and we should watch them safely from far away, like in a zoo or in books and videos.
