Hi! Fog is like a cloud that comes down and sits on the ground.

It is made of lots and lots of tiny drops of water floating in the air. The tiny drops are so small they can stay in the air, and when there are many of them, they make it hard to see far away.

How fog forms, step by step:

  1. Air has invisible water in it called water vapor.
  2. If the air gets cold, the water vapor turns into tiny water drops.
  3. When lots of tiny drops are close to the ground, that is fog.

When you see fog:

  • It often happens in the early morning or near lakes and rivers.
  • After a rainy day or when warm air meets cold air, fog can form.

Easy experiment: Breathe on a cold window or on a bathroom mirror after a warm bath. You will see little drops appear. That is like tiny fog on the glass.

Safety tip: Fog makes it hard for drivers to see, so be careful near roads when it is foggy and hold hands with an adult.
