Food Pyramid (Easy for you!)
Hi! The food pyramid is a triangle that helps you see which foods to eat most and which to eat a little. Let’s learn it step by step.
Step 1: Look at the pyramid
Imagine a tall triangle with layers. The bottom is the biggest. The top is the smallest.
Step 2: The layers (from bottom to top)
- Bottom - Grains (eat a lot) 🍞🍚🍝 — bread, rice, cereal. These give you energy to run and play.
- Next - Vegetables and Fruits (eat lots) 🥦🍎🥕 — carrots, apples, bananas, salad. They help you grow strong and stay healthy.
- Middle - Protein (eat some) 🍗🥚🫘 — chicken, eggs, beans, fish. These build your muscles.
- Middle - Dairy (eat some) 🥛🧀 — milk, yogurt, cheese. These help make your bones big and strong.
- Top - Sweets and Fats (eat a little) 🍬🍟 — candy, cookies, fried foods. Tasty, but small amounts only.
Step 3: How much to eat
Think: big pieces at the bottom = eat more. Small piece at the top = eat less.
So you should have lots of grains, fruits and veggies, some protein and dairy, and only a little sweet or fried food.
Step 4: Fun ways to learn
- Draw your own pyramid and paste pictures of foods on the right layer.
- Play a sorting game: put snacks into "lots", "some", or "little" baskets.
- Make a rainbow plate: choose fruits and veggies of many colors.
Easy meal ideas
Breakfast: cereal (grain) + banana (fruit) + milk (dairy).
Lunch: sandwich (grain + protein) + carrot sticks (veg).
Snack: yogurt (dairy) with berries (fruit).
Extra tips
- Drink water most of the time.
- Play and move your body every day.
- It’s okay to have a treat sometimes — just not every day.
Great job! Now you know the food pyramid. Try drawing it and sorting foods — it’s fun!
