Why Do Ships Have an Anchor?

Okay! Imagine you are playing with a toy boat in a big bathtub. What if your boat started to drift away? You wouldn’t want it to get lost, right? That’s why boats and ships have something called an anchor!

1. What is an anchor? An anchor is a heavy piece of metal. It is tied to the ship with a long rope or chain.

2. What does it do? When a ship wants to stop and not move, it drops the anchor into the water. The anchor sinks to the bottom and holds the ship in place, just like if you held your toy boat with your hand!

3. Why is it important? If the ship didn’t have an anchor, it could float away from where it needs to be. That would be like if your toy boat drifted out of the bathtub and under the couch!

4. When do ships use anchors? Ships use anchors when they want to rest or stay in one spot, just like when you sit on the grass and you don’t want to move.

So, an anchor is like a superhero for ships, keeping them safe and where they are supposed to be!
