Why Do Ships Have an Anchor?
Ships have anchors just like how you might have a favorite toy that keeps you safe while you play. When a ship is in the water and needs to stay in one place, it uses an anchor!
Think of an anchor as a big, heavy weight. Here’s how it works:
- Staying in One Place: When the ship is stopped and needs to keep still, the crew drops the anchor into the water. It sinks down to the bottom.
- Holding Tight: Once the anchor is on the bottom, it grabs onto the ground. This is like when you hold onto your friend’s hand so you don’t get lost!
- Stability: Now, even if the wind blows or the water gets bumpy, the ship won’t move around too much because it’s holding onto the anchor.
