Octopus Fun Facts for 6-Year-Olds
Octopuses are sea animals that are clever and a little bit silly looking. Here are easy, short facts you can read and share!
- They have 8 arms. Count them: one, two, three... eight!
- They have no bones. Their bodies are soft, so they can squeeze through tiny holes.
- They squirt ink to hide. The ink makes a cloud so they can swim away.
- They can change color and texture. This helps them hide or show how they feel.
- They have three hearts. Two hearts send blood to the gills and one sends blood to the rest of the body.
- Their blood is blue. Their special blood works well in cold ocean water.
- They are very smart. Some can open jars, solve simple puzzles, and remember things.
- Their suckers can taste. The little cups on their arms hold things and help them 'taste' food.
- They like to live alone. Many make a cozy den where they stay by themselves.
- They usually don’t live very long. Many octopuses grow fast but live only 1–2 years.
Try a fun activity:
- Draw a big circle for the head and add eight long arms.
- Draw big eyes and lots of little circles on the arms for suckers.
- Color your octopus—try mixing colors like a real octopus can!
