Bonfire Night
Bonfire Night is a special night when people have a big fire called a bonfire and watch bright fireworks in the sky.
What you will see
- A big warm bonfire with grown-ups around it.
- Lots of colourful fireworks that go pop, crackle and BOOM!
- People clapping, saying 'wow' and smiling.
Why we have it (very simple)
A long time ago someone called Guy Fawkes did something wrong. People remember the story by having a bonfire and fireworks. Now it is a night to watch the pretty lights with family.
Easy safety rules
- Always stay with a grown-up. Hold their hand if you need to.
- Keep a safe distance from the fire and the fireworks.
- Don’t pick up fireworks or go near the fire — let only the grown-ups do that.
- If a sound is too loud, tell your grown-up or cover your ears with your hands.
- If you feel scared, tell a grown-up right away.
- If your clothes ever catch fire: STOP, DROP and ROLL. Tell a grown-up now so they can help teach you.
Fun things to do
- Bring a cosy blanket and sit with your family.
- Take a small torch or a glow stick to wave slowly.
- Draw fireworks with crayons at home before you go.
- Clap and say 'wow' when the fireworks go off.
Little rhyme: "Sparkles bright up in the night, hold my hand and hug me tight."
Have fun and stay safe — grown-ups will look after you and the fireworks will be beautiful!
