What bunnies like to do
Bunnies are playful and curious. Here are things rabbits love to do, written for a 6-year-old.
- Hop and zoom: Bunnies love to run and jump. When they run fast it is called zoomies.
- Binky: Sometimes they jump and twist in the air. That means they are very happy!
- Flop: If a bunny lies on its side and looks relaxed, it feels safe and cozy.
- Groom: Bunnies clean themselves by licking their fur. They may also gently lick a friend.
- Chew: Their teeth always grow, so they chew safe toys and hay to keep teeth short.
- Dig: Rabbits like to scratch and make little holes. A digging box is fun for them.
- Forage and nibble: They enjoy searching for food and nibbling grass and safe veggies.
- Explore: Bunnies love to sniff new places and hide in tunnels or boxes.
How you can play safely with a bunny
- Ask an adult before you touch or feed the bunny.
- Let the bunny come to you. Don’t chase it.
- Pet gently on the head and cheeks. Don’t pat the belly.
- Give small safe treats only with an adult’s permission (a tiny piece of carrot or apple).
- Make fun toys: cardboard boxes, paper bags, and tunnels are great. Also give safe chews from a pet store.
- If you want to pick up the bunny, always have an adult help. Bunnies like to feel safe with their feet supported.

- Trying to run away or hiding a lot
- Ears flat back and stiff body
- Growling or teeth chattering loudly — get an adult
Easy game to try: Bunny Treasure Hunt
With an adult, hide tiny pieces of hay or a safe veggie in a cardboard box or under paper. Let the bunny sniff and find the treats. It is a fun way for bunnies to forage and play.
Have fun watching and caring for your bunny. They are happy when they feel safe, have toys, and lots of gentle love!
