Hi there! Let’s learn bunny hops
Bunny hops are tiny jumps you do like a little bunny. They are fun and help your legs get strong!
What you need
- A soft floor or grass
- Space around you so you don’t bump anything
- Comfy shoes or bare feet
Step-by-step
- Stand tall: Feet together, knees soft, hands by your sides or up like bunny ears.
- Bend your knees: Make your knees like little springs. Pretend you’re sitting on an invisible tiny chair.
- Jump a little: Push down with your feet and hop up just a little bit. Try to keep your feet together like a bunny.
- Land softly: Land on the balls of your feet, then let your heels touch. Bend your knees when you land so it’s soft.
- Repeat: Hop again and count out loud: 1, 2, 3. Try 5 small hops, then take a rest.
Tips to remember
- Keep your knees soft so it doesn’t hurt.
- Jump small at first bunnies don’t jump super high.
- Breathe out as you hop and breathe in when you land.
- Do this on soft ground or a mat.
Fun variations
- Bunny hops forward: Hop forward a little each time.
- Bunny hops side to side: Hop to the right, then to the left.
- Bunny hop over a line: Put a line on the floor and hop over it.
- Bunny hop race: See who can hop to the finish line first.
- Bunny hop and clap: Hop then clap your hands before the next hop.
Games to try
- Follow the leader: Copy the leader’s bunny moves.
- Hop to the basket: Hop and drop a soft toy in a basket.
- Freeze hop: Hop until the music stops, then freeze like a statue.
For grown-ups
Watch the child while they hop. Keep hops small and under control. If a child has trouble jumping, try very small bounces or marching in place like a bunny instead.
Have fun and give lots of praises: “Great bunny hop!?
