Quick guidance — AGLC4 book entry structure

In a bibliography AGLC4 uses the following general pattern for a book:

Author, Title (translator, edition, Publisher Year).

Notes:

  • Author name: give the name in normal order (First name Last name).
  • Title: italicised.
  • If the book is a translated edition include the translator as trans Translator inside the parentheses before the publisher and year.
  • If you have an edition statement (eg '2nd edn') include it inside the parentheses before the publisher.
  • End the entry with a full stop.

Templates and ready-to-fill entries

Below are AGLC4-style entries for the three works you listed. I have not assumed particular publishers/years/translator names — these are left as placeholders. If you give me the edition/publisher/year (or an ISBN) I will fill them in exactly.

1. Alan Garner — The Owl Service

Alan Garner, The Owl Service (Publisher Year).

Example with placeholders filled (replace Publisher and Year):

Alan Garner, The Owl Service (Bodley Head 1967).

2. Caitlín Matthews — King Arthur and the Goddess of the Land

Caitlín Matthews, King Arthur and the Goddess of the Land (Publisher Year).

If this is a particular edition or reprint include edition info:

Caitlín Matthews, King Arthur and the Goddess of the Land (2nd edn, Publisher Year).

3. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry — Vol de nuit

You can cite either the original French edition or an English translation. Two example forms:

Original (French): Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Vol de nuit (Publisher Year).
English translation: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Night Flight (trans Translator, Publisher Year).

Example with placeholders:

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Vol de nuit (Éditions XYZ 1931).
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Night Flight (trans John Doe, Publisher Year).

How I can finish these for you

If you reply with any of the following for each book, I will return exact AGLC4 bibliography entries:

  • Publisher and year (and edition if not first)
  • Translator name (for translated editions)
  • ISBN (if you don’t know the publisher/year — I can look up details from the ISBN you give)

If you prefer, paste the exact edition page (title page / verso) text and I will format the precise AGLC4 entries for you.
