AGLC4 book formatting — the rules in brief:
- Bibliography entry: Author, Title (Publisher Year).
- Footnote (first citation): Author, Title (Publisher Year) pinpoint if required.
- Use the author name as given (preserve particles such as "de"), preserve original title capitalization, and italicise book titles.
Below are the three works formatted for the bibliography and the matching AGLC4-style footnote citations.
Bibliography (AGLC4)
- Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Vol de Nuit (Gallimard 1931).
- Caitlin Matthews, King Arthur and the Goddess of Land (Aquarian Press 1990).
- Alan Garner, The Owl Service (Collins 1967).
Footnote citations (AGLC4) — first citation style
- Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Vol de Nuit (Gallimard 1931).
- Caitlin Matthews, King Arthur and the Goddess of Land (Aquarian Press 1990).
- Alan Garner, The Owl Service (Collins 1967).
Notes:
- If you later cite the same work again in notes you can use a short form (for example: Saint-Exupéry, Vol de Nuit or simply the author surname and a short title) together with the note number where the full citation first appears, per AGLC4 practice.
- If you have a specific page to cite, add the pinpoint after the year in the footnote: e.g. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Vol de Nuit (Gallimard 1931) 123.
