Why is the sky blue?
Imagine the sky like a big blue ocean, but instead of water, it's filled with air! When the sunlight reaches Earth, it looks white, but it’s actually made up of lots of different colors, just like a rainbow!
Now, here’s where the fun part begins: sunlight travels in little bits called light waves. Some of these waves are shorter and some are longer. The blue light waves are shorter than the red light waves.
When the sunlight hits the air, the shorter blue light waves bounce around more than the other colors. So, when we look up, we see more blue light than any other color. That’s why the sky looks blue!
Next time you’re outside, take a look at the sky and remember: it’s blue because of the special way sunlight travels through the air!
