There is a particular pleasure in watching a young musician arrive at the end of a year with hands and ears both schooled, and a curiosity burnished rather than dulled. In this year’s report, Student, age 13, presents as a proficient musician across ACARA v9 expectations: demonstrating technical control, expressive communication and informed listening. On intermediate piano, through the Piano Adventures ACE pedagogy, they have developed secure technique, thoughtful practice habits and a growing interpretive voice. Scales, Hanon‑Faber selections and etudes are performed with clarity and rhythmic assurance; phrasing shows melodic intent and dynamic nuance.

As a novice violinist, they navigate bowing patterns and first positions with promising intonation and ensemble awareness, progressing steadily with Jamie Chimchirian’s The Violin Method for Beginners and guided video lessons. Musicianship has been enriched by aural training using Cornell Lab’s Raven Lite and contextual listening inspired by cross-curricular reading such as Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring. Harmonic understanding and form have been strengthened by TeachRock’s Musical Ratios explorations.

Learning habits are exemplary: rehearsal is deliberate, goals are set and reflected upon, and feedback is assimilated with grace. Performance confidence is evident in studio presentations and collaborative tasks. Areas for growth: continued left-hand independence and expressive rubato on piano, and refined shifting and vibrato initiation on violin.

Recommended next steps: sustained use of Piano Adventures ACE tasks to deepen musical choices; continued Hanon‑Faber technique for agility; ongoing ear work and Chimchirian method videos for bow control; and Raven Lite projects to internalise pitch relationships. In short, a delectable year of music-making—solid, soulful, and decidedly promising.

Parents and student are encouraged to savour victories, to keep practice warm and unhurried, and to embrace repertoire that stretches intellect and imagination; next year promises blossoming artistry, curiosity and a deeper, delicious sense of musical identity.
