Warm the classroom like a kitchen; today we steep students (14‑year‑olds) in the sumptuous stitchery of medieval embroidery. Begin with a short taste of context—images and sources from tapestries, The Mabinogion and charters—then a sensory demonstration of linen, silk and thread. Students design a simple motif inspired by medieval flora or heraldry, sketch, transfer and practise chain and couching stitches. While stitching for ninety minutes, encourage reflection on craft, patronage and daily life. Conclude with a gallery tasting: peer feedback and a brief written connection to medieval society. Aligned to ACARA v9: History and Design & Technologies. Year 8 focus.
