Imagine strolling into a lesson like Ally McBeal walking into a courtroom—slightly nervous, secretly hopeful. This Year‑long course (age 15; Faber Level 3A–3B) blends Faber Piano Adventures Teacher’s Atlas with Hanon‑Faber: The New Virtuoso Pianist and the Scale & Chord books to grow healthy technique, musical literacy and creative voice. Aligned to ACARA v9 (Music Years 9–10), students develop making, performing and responding skills: focused warm‑ups for gesture and endurance; progressive scales, arpeggios and chord patterns for dexterity, transposition and harmonic understanding; sight‑reading, theory links and improvisation tasks. Each week’s lesson maps to Atlas pages: suggested practice sequences, lesson plans, common pitfalls and recital preparation—your teacher consults the Atlas like a chef following a recipe, matching pieces (flavours) with technique (spices) and theory (garnish). Assessment includes performance, a short composition/improvisation, and a reflective journal that documents practice strategies and aural progress. By year’s end students will demonstrate efficient, relaxed technique, secure scale and chord fluency across keys, informed interpretive choices and the ability to compose or improvise short pieces. Lessons are adaptable for exams or AMEB pathways, and regular feedback ensures incremental growth, confidence on stage and lifelong musical habits and joyful expression.
