Places on a Farm
Hi! Let’s learn the names of different places on a farm. I will tell you what each place is, what lives or grows there, and a little game to help you remember.
- Barn 🐄 — A big building where cows, pigs, goats, or horses sometimes sleep. Farmers keep hay here.
- Field 🌾 — A large open area where crops like corn, wheat, or vegetables grow. Tractors drive here.
- Orchard 🍎 — A place with many fruit trees, like apple or peach trees.
- Pasture 🐑 — A grassy area where animals like sheep, cows, or horses eat grass.
- Stable 🐴 — A smaller building made especially for horses.
- Chicken Coop 🐔 — A little house where chickens live and lay eggs.
- Pond 🐟 — A small lake where ducks, frogs, and fish can live.
- Silo 🌽 — A tall round tower that stores grain or feed for animals.
- Greenhouse 🌱 — A warm glass building where plants are grown, especially young plants or flowers.
- Farmhouse 🏠 — Where the farmer and their family live.
- Tool Shed / Workshop 🛠️ — Where tools and machines are kept and fixed.
Easy Steps to Learn Them
- Look at a picture of a farm or pretend one in your head.
- Say the name out loud: "Barn," "Orchard," "Pond."
- Think of which animal or thing lives there: cows in the barn, ducks at the pond, apples in the orchard.
- Draw a small map and label each place. Drawing helps you remember!

Fun Games to Practice
- I Spy on the Farm: One person says, "I spy with my little eye something that is where the cows live." The other guesses "barn."
- Match the Animal: Make cards with animal pictures and cards with place names. Match cow to barn, chicken to coop, fish to pond.
- Draw Your Farm: Draw where you would put the barn, pond, orchard, and farmhouse. Then tell a short story about your farm.
Quick Quiz
Ask yourself or a friend these questions out loud:
- Where do apples grow?
- Where does the farmer keep the grain?
- Where do chickens sleep?
- Where do the horses run and eat grass?
Great job! If you want, draw your own farm and send me a description — I can help you label it.
