Outside the Farmhouse

Hi! Let’s go outside the farmhouse and look around. I will tell you what you might see, fun things to do, a senses game, a scavenger hunt, and some safety rules.

What you might see

  • Barn, fences, and a tractor.
  • Animals like cows, chickens, a dog, cats, and maybe sheep or horses.
  • A vegetable garden and fruit trees (apples, pears, berries).
  • Tall trees, a field of grass, flowers, and maybe a pond or a stream.
  • Birds, bugs, and sometimes rabbits or deer.

What you can do (step by step)

  1. Look first: walk slowly and use your eyes to spot animals, plants, and little things on the ground.
  2. Listen: stop and be quiet for a moment. Can you hear birds, cows, wind, or leaves rustling?
  3. Ask an adult before touching anything or going near animals.
  4. If a grown-up says it is okay, you can collect eggs, water plants, or pick a ripe fruit from a tree they point to.
  5. Play gentle games: chase butterflies, hop over little puddles, or build a small stick house for bugs (with adult help).

Senses game

Try this: use your five senses. Say out loud one thing you can:

  • See — for example, a red flower.
  • Hear — maybe a rooster or the wind.
  • Smell — fresh grass or soil.
  • Touch — a smooth rock or soft leaf (only if an adult says it is safe).
  • Taste — only food that a grown-up gives you, like a berry they say is safe.

Simple scavenger hunt

Try to find five things: a feather, a smooth stone, a little round seed, a yellow leaf, and a ladybug. Take your time and be gentle with nature.

Safety rules

  • Always go with a grown-up or tell someone where you are going.
  • Stay on the path or yard and away from deep water or thick bushes unless an adult is with you.
  • Do not touch animals you do not know. Let the owner or adult help.
  • Wear shoes, a hat in the sun, and wash your hands after touching animals or soil.
  • If you see something sharp, sticky, or scary, tell an adult right away.

Have fun exploring! When you come back inside, tell an adult what you found and draw a picture of your favorite thing outside the farmhouse.
