Hello! Let's trap zombies and care for turtles 🧟‍♂️🐢🥚

I'll show you two fun things you can build in Minecraft Bedrock: 1) a simple trapdoor trap to catch zombies, and 2) how to make a safe place for turtles and their eggs. I will use easy steps so you can build it yourself.

What you need (materials)

  • Trapdoors (wooden trapdoors are easy)
  • Any building blocks (stone, dirt, etc.)
  • Fences or walls (for the bottom of the pit)
  • Torches (to light the area)
  • Seagrass (to breed turtles)
  • Sand (turtles lay eggs on sand)

Part 1 — Easy trapdoor zombie trap (kid-friendly)

Why this works: In Minecraft, mobs (like zombies) see an open trapdoor as if it were a solid block. That means they will walk on it and can fall into a hole you make.

  1. Find a flat spot near where zombies come at night.
  2. Dig a hole that is 2–3 blocks deep. Make the hole 2x2 or 3x3 so zombies can’t jump out easily.
  3. On one edge of the hole, place a block at ground level. Attach an open trapdoor to that block so the trapdoor is open and looks like part of the ground. (Open the trapdoor so it lies flat or faces like a step — it should look like something the zombie can walk on.)
  4. Light the area around your trap so other mobs don’t spawn by accident (put torches around).
  5. Lure a zombie toward the trap (stand where it can see you). The zombie will walk over the open trapdoor because it thinks it’s solid and then fall into the hole.
  6. When the zombie is in the pit, either close the trapdoor so it can’t escape, or use fences/walls at the bottom so it stays trapped. You can finish it off safely from the top.

Tips:

  • If the zombie won’t come, make a small path (1 block wide) so it follows you right onto the trapdoor.
  • Make the pit deeper (3 blocks) so zombies can’t climb out easily.
  • Watch from a safe spot so you don’t get hit!

Part 2 — Turtle pen and protecting turtle eggs 🐢🥚

Turtles lay eggs on sand. If you want baby turtles, you need to breed adult turtles with seagrass. Here’s how to keep eggs safe and make a nice turtle home.

  1. Find two turtles on a beach.
  2. Bring them to a flat patch of sand (their nest) or build a small fenced area filled with sand on the beach. Use fences or walls so the turtles cannot wander off.
  3. Give each adult turtle seagrass (hold seagrass and use it on the turtle). Hearts will appear and the turtles will mate. One turtle will go lay eggs on the sand where you put them.
  4. Protect the eggs: surround the egg sand block with fences or glass so zombies and other mobs can’t walk on the eggs. Put torches nearby so hostile mobs don’t spawn at night.

Using trapdoors with turtle nests (nice trick):

  • You can place trapdoors as small gates for you to open and check the eggs. Put trapdoors on the top of the fence or as a small lid that you can open to look and close to protect the eggs.
  • A trapdoor helps you reach the eggs without accidentally stepping on them. Close the trapdoor when you leave.

Extra tips and safety

  • Always put torches so monsters don’t spawn near your turtle nest or trap.
  • Test your zombie trap with a harmless mob first (like a skeleton or just watch a zombie) so you understand how it works before you try with a creeper!
  • Be patient: turtle eggs take time to hatch. Baby turtles will eventually crawl into the water and grow up.
  • If you want baby turtles to come to your base, build a gentle ramp or a water path so they can safely travel without getting stuck.

Good luck! 🎮

Try building the trap in a creative world first if you want practice. Have fun catching zombies and taking care of turtles — and remember to be kind to the turtles in your world!
