Minecraft Bedrock: Zombies & Drowned — Simple Guide (for 8-year-old players)

Hi! You said you love turtles 🐢 and eggs 🥚 and that you play Creative — awesome! Here’s a fun, simple explanation of zombies and drowned in Minecraft Bedrock, and step-by-step things you can try.

What is a Zombie?

  • Zombies are the regular land bad guys. They walk toward you and try to hit you.
  • They can be normal size or baby zombies (baby ones are small and very fast).
  • Zombies burn in sunlight (they catch fire during the day) unless they are in water or wearing a helmet.
  • In Survival they drop rotten flesh (and sometimes items if they had them). In Creative you can just spawn them and they won’t hurt you if you switch game modes.

What is a Drowned?

  • Drowned are underwater zombies. They live in oceans, rivers, and swim in water.
  • They can melee you (hit you) and sometimes throw tridents if they are holding one (that is rare).
  • Drowned don’t burn in sunlight because they live in water.

How to spawn them in Creative (easy steps)

  1. Open your Creative inventory (press E on PC or open your inventory on console/tablet).
  2. Search for "Spawn Egg" and pick the Zombie Spawn Egg or the Drowned Spawn Egg.
  3. Right-click (or tap/place) the spawn egg where you want them — they appear instantly.
  4. Tip: You can also use commands if cheats are on: type /summon zombie or /summon drowned to make them appear.

How to turn a Zombie into a Drowned (fun experiment)

  1. Spawn a Zombie in Creative.
  2. Push or lure the Zombie into deep water (make sure it is fully underwater).
  3. Leave it underwater for a little while (about half a minute to a minute). The zombie will change into a Drowned.
  4. Try it in Survival to see drops and how they behave, but be careful — wear armor! Or just switch back to Creative to play safely.

Play ideas and experiments (safe and fun)

  • Spawn a baby zombie and watch how fast it moves — baby zombies are tiny speedsters!
  • Spawn a zombie, put it in sunlight, and watch it burn (only do this in Creative or Peaceful if you don’t want to hurt your world).
  • Make an underwater arena and spawn drowned to see how they swim and act.
  • Try giving a zombie a helmet (in Creative use commands or give it armor) so it won’t burn in sunlight — neat trick!

Turtle eggs & turtles — quick tips (because you love eggs!)

  • To get turtle eggs: find turtles on a beach, feed two turtles seagrass to make babies, and grown turtles will later lay eggs on their home beach.
  • Turtle eggs hatch at night after a few nights. You can speed things up by making the area safe and dark.
  • Protect eggs: build a little fence or wall around them so mobs (and players) can’t step on them. Fences are simple and keep eggs safe.

Safety & quick settings

  • If you want to watch but not fight, switch to Creative or set the difficulty to Peaceful — then monsters won’t attack.
  • If you want to test real survival drops, switch to Survival for that experiment and then back to Creative when done.
