Hi! Here are the things that grow on your head and what they do:
- Hair: The hair on top of your head grows from tiny roots called follicles in your scalp. Hair grows a little bit every day and can be long, short, curly, or straight.
- Eyebrows and eyelashes: These are smaller hairs above and around your eyes. They help keep sweat, dust, and bright light out of your eyes.
- Teeth: Teeth grow in your mouth. You have baby teeth now, and later they fall out and adult teeth grow in their place.
- Scalp and skin: The skin on your head (scalp) grows and makes tiny amounts of oil and sweat to keep your skin healthy. Sometimes small bumps like pimples can appear — that is normal.
How to take care of the things on your head:
- Wash your hair with mild shampoo and rinse well.
- Comb or brush your hair to keep it tidy.
- Brush your teeth twice a day and visit the dentist when your parents say so.
- Wash your face if it gets dirty and try not to touch pimples.
Fun fact: hair grows all the time, but very slowly — about as much as the length of a fingernail each month!
