Hey there! Have you ever looked up at the moon and seen the big holes on it? Those holes are called craters! Let me tell you how they get there.

1. Big Rocks in Space: The moon is like a big, rocky place in the sky. Sometimes, really big rocks, called meteors or asteroids, travel from space and zoom towards the moon.

2. Bang!: When these big rocks hit the moon, they go BOOM! It’s like what happens when you throw a ball at the ground. The ground pushes back really hard, but the moon doesn’t have any trees or grass to go 'under,' so the rock makes a big hole instead.

3. Making Craters: When the rock hits, it creates a round hole called a crater. Some craters are small, like a little dip, and some are super big, like a huge bowl!

4. Staying Forever: The moon doesn’t have weather like rain or wind, so once a crater is made, it stays there for a long, long time!

So next time you look at the moon and see those craters, you’ll know they are there because of the big rocks from space bumping into it!
