Style note: imagine a courtroom musical cameo — legal-as-lyrics, comic-strip captions, but strictly only the places/settings and the people & roles named in these clauses.

- Who is responsible?
Notes / Answer (right)
- Steward (every steward).
- Place/setting: fishponds on our estates; places where fishponds are practicable; the estates themselves (our estates).
- Command: keep fishponds where they existed, enlarge them, and establish them where practicable.
Comic caption: Steward declares, "I shall pond and prosper — enlarge, establish, and obey!" (objectionably earnest)

Clause 34 — Comic Panel (Cleanliness on Cue)
Cue / Question
- Who must ensure cleanliness in making garum?
Notes / Answer
- Stewards ("they" — those in charge).
- Place/setting implied: made/prepared under their care (on the estates/in their charge).
- Item of concern: garum (must be prepared with the greatest attention to cleanliness).
Comic caption: The steward sings, "Garum! Clean! Clean! — or objection: unsavoury!" (very dramatic sniff)

Clause 44 — Comic Panel (Lenten Delivery)
Cue / Question
- What happens to fish at Lent?
Notes / Answer
- Stewards are to send two thirds of the Lenten food for our use; that Lenten food list explicitly includes fish.

Comic caption: In court-song: "Two-thirds to the crown — fish included!" (cue harp)

Clause 45 — Comic Panel (Workmen on Call)

- Which workmen must a steward keep nearby for fishing?
Notes / Answer
- Every steward must have in his district: fishermen and net-makers (net-makers who can make good nets for fishing or fowling).
- Place/setting: the steward's district.
Comic caption: A fisherman and a net-maker enter the scene like a duet: "Catch and stitch, catch and stitch!"

Clause 62 — Comic Panel (Accounting Chorus)
Cue / Question
- How do fishponds and fishermen appear in royal accounts?
Notes / Answer
- Stewards must make an annual statement of income that includes: fishponds (listed among gardens and produce) and fishermen (as a named source).
- Place/setting: fishponds (as a revenue source) and the steward's reporting to the ruler; information is to be sent at Christmas time.
Comic caption: The steward files: "Fishponds: counted. Fishermen: noted. Christmas delivery: incoming." (stage whisper)

Clause 65 — Comic Panel (Sell & Replace)
Cue / Question
- What may stewards do with the fish from the fishponds?
Notes / Answer
- Stewards shall sell fish from our fishponds and put others in their place so there is always a supply.
- If the ruler does not visit the estates, the fish may be sold for profit and the stewards are to obtain profit for the ruler's benefit.
- Place/setting: fishponds on our estates; the estates when the ruler visits (or does not visit).
Comic caption: Steward to judge: "Sell, replenish, profit — in triplicate!" (gavel-bop)

One-line Summary (bottom of each Cornell card):
- Roles: Stewards are in charge; they must keep and manage fishponds, ensure garum is made cleanly, send Lenten fish to the ruler, maintain fishermen and net-makers in their districts, include fish/fishpond income in the annual report sent at Christmas, and sell/replace fish so supply and profit for the ruler are secured.

Ready-to-print tip: Each card above fits one Cornell flashcard: left cue, right note, bottom summary line; use the comic captions as panel art captions for a playful front page.
