1) What is a tahr? A tahr is a wild mountain goat that lives on rocky hills. It looks furry and sure-footed.
2) What are horns? Horns are hard curved parts on top of the tahr’s head. They are part of the animal, a bit like how our nails are part of us.
3) How the horns keep the tahr safe: If a tahr feels scared, it can use its horns to push or butt an enemy. This helps it protect itself from danger.
4) How the horns are decoration and show who is strongest: Big horns help a tahr look strong, like wearing a crown. Other tahrs can see the horns and tell who is older or stronger. This helps the herd know who should be the leader.
5) What happens when tahrs fight: They usually lock horns and push. Most of the time they do not try to hurt each other a lot — they are just showing who is tougher.
6) A little extra: Male tahrs often have bigger horns than females, and horns grow as the tahr grows.
