Corrected sentence

When animals get scared, each one has its own super-trick. Some hide, some run away, and some even make a terrible smell. Which animal protects itself in which way?

4 ways animals protect themselves

  • Hide or blend in (camouflage) — Some animals change color or look like their surroundings so predators can’t see them. Example: a chameleon or a stick insect looks like a leaf or branch.
  • Run away (escape) — Fast animals use speed or quick turns to get away. Example: rabbits and antelopes run fast to put distance between them and a hunter.
  • Play dead (feign death) — Some animals pretend to be dead so predators lose interest. Example: an opossum lies still and looks lifeless.
  • Spray or make a terrible smell (chemical defense) — Some animals spray a stinky or hot-smelling liquid to scare predators away. Example: a skunk sprays a strong smell; some beetles spray hot, yucky chemicals.
