When animals get scared, each one has a special way to stay safe. Some hide, some run away, and one even makes a very stinky smell to warn others or chase danger off.
- Hide – Rabbits and lizards hide in bushes or under leaves. Chameleons can change color to blend in.
- Run away – Deer and rabbits sprint fast to get far from danger.
- Spray a stinky smell – Skunks spray a smelly spray that makes predators back off.
- Play dead – Opossums sometimes pretend to be dead so a predator loses interest.
- Puff up or show spines – Pufferfish puff into a ball and porcupines show sharp quills to look dangerous.
- Camouflage – Stick insects and leaf insects look like sticks or leaves so predators don’t notice them.
- Make loud sounds or look bigger – Some birds or animals hiss, fluff up, or stomp to scare a predator away.
Now, can you guess which animal uses each of these ways to stay safe?
