What to Do If You’re Sick
When you don’t feel well, it’s important to rest and take care of yourself. Here are easy steps you can follow.
- Tell an adult: Let a parent, guardian, or older sibling know you’re not feeling well.
- Rest a lot: Bed or couch rest helps your body get better.
- Drink fluids: Water, diluted juice, or warm soup keep you hydrated. Avoid too much juice or soda.
- Eat light foods: Crackers, toast, applesauce, or yogurt are easy on the tummy.
- Comfort items: A blanket, favorite stuffed animal, or a night-light can help you feel safer and cozier.
- Greet symptoms with simple care: If you have a fever, you can use a cool compress and rest. If you have a sore throat, warm tea with honey (if allowed) can help.
- Medicine safety (with adult help): Only take medicines your grown-up approves. Always check the label and dosage with an adult.
- Hygiene matters: Use tissues for sneezes, wash hands often, and cover coughs to keep germs away from others.
- Keep things easy to manage: A small chart or checklist can remind you what to do each day.
When to Ask for More Help
Ask an adult right away if you have any of these:
- Very high fever or fever that lasts more than a couple days
- Trouble breathing, chest pain, or severe headache
- Stomach pain that is very bad or lasts a long time
Remember: It’s okay to rest and ask for help. You’ll feel better soon!
