How a Scorpion Uses Its Curved Tail and Stinger

Scorpions are small arachnids with eight legs. One special part is their tail, which curves over their back like a question mark.

At the end of the tail is the stinger. The stinger is like a tiny needle that shoots venom. Venom can help the scorpion:

  • Stun or slow down prey (like insects) so the scorpion can eat it.
  • Protect the scorpion if a bigger animal comes close.

When the scorpion feels scared or needs to grab something, it curls its tail up and back. The muscles in the tail tighten, and the stinger can be used to poke or sting.

Important to remember:

  • Most scorpions sting only to defend themselves or to catch food.
  • Not all stings are dangerous to people, but it can hurt a lot. If stung, tell a grown-up and wash the area with soap and water.

So, the tail is like a built-in safety and feeding tool, helping the scorpion protect itself and eat!
