What are plurals?
A plural is when we talk about more than one thing. For example, one dog becomes two dogs.
How do we form plurals?
- Most nouns add an -s: cat → cats, book → books
- Words ending in y do a small flip: baby → babies, party → parties
- Some words add -es: bus → buses, wish → wishes
Special sound rules (fun tips)
- If a word ends in a vowel + y (like day), just add an s: day → days
- If a word ends in a consonant + y (like baby), change y to i and add es: baby → babies
Practice with simple sentences
- There is one dog. There are two dogs.
- I see one bus. I see three buses.
- One book, two books.
Quick fun activity
- Look around the room and name five things you can make plural for (e.g., cat → cats, chair → chairs).
- Draw a picture of 2 of something and write the plural word next to it.
Remember: plural usually means more than one. Practice helps you use the right ending and sound.
