What is Digestion?
Hi Vienna! Have you ever wondered what happens to your food after you eat it? That's where digestion comes in! It's an important process that helps our bodies use the food we eat.
Step-by-Step Digestive Journey
1. Eating: When you take a bite of food, your teeth help break it into smaller pieces. This is called chewing.
2. Mixing with Saliva: Your mouth produces saliva, which is a liquid that helps to soften the food. This makes it easier to swallow!
3. Swallowing: Once the food is chewed and mixed with saliva, you swallow it, sending it down your throat into your stomach.
4. Stomach: Your food goes into your stomach, where it meets strong acids and special juices that continue to break it down. It's like a mini blender inside your body!
5. Small Intestine: After the stomach, the food moves into the small intestine. Here, your body takes all the good stuff (nutrients) from the food to give you energy and help you grow.
6. Large Intestine: After the small intestine, any leftover food that your body doesn't need goes into the large intestine. Here, water is absorbed, and what's left is turned into waste.
7. Getting Rid of Waste: Finally, when your body is done with the food, it gets rid of the waste through your bottom. This is called going to the bathroom!
Why Digestion is Important
Digestion is super important because it helps our bodies get the energy we need to run, play, and learn. Without digestion, our bodies wouldn't be able to take care of us!
So, the next time you munch on a yummy snack, just remember the amazing journey it will take through your body!
