What is a sickness (sykdom)?
A sickness means our body is not feeling well. We might be tired, have a fever, or feel sore in our tummy or head.
Common signs to know
- Feeling very tired
- Fever (hot to touch on the forehead)
- Cough or runny nose
- Tummy ache or not wanting to eat
- Not playing as much as usual
What you can do to feel better
- Give lots of rest and sleep.
- Offer fluids like water or milk to stay hydrated.
- Keep warm with a comfy blanket.
- Offer small, easy-to-digest foods if hungry (like soft fruit or crackers).
- Use a soft, gentle voice and cuddle if they want.
- Watch for fever: if they’re very warm or not drinking, tell a caregiver.
When to ask for help
- If fever lasts more than 2 days or is very high.
- If the child is very sleepy, difficult to wake, or has blue lips.
- If there is a stiff neck, severe tummy pain, or vomiting that won’t stop.
- If you’re worried at all, contact a caregiver or doctor.
Remember: comfort, rest, fluids, and love help a lot. Always ask a grown-up if you’re unsure.
