Learn to Read a Short Story: Step by Step
We will read a tiny, friendly story about animals. You can read along and feel proud!
- Look at the pictures – See who is in the story and what they are doing. This helps you guess what the words mean.
- Point to the words as you say them – Say the sounds slowly: a, m, p. Then blend them to read the word “am” or “camp.”
- Sound out one word at a time – If you see a long word, break it into parts: ba + by = “baby.”
- Ask and answer easy questions – Who is in the picture? What are they doing? Where is the animal going?
- Pause and think – If a word is tricky, look at the picture again and listen to the sentence. You can ask, “What word would fit here?”
- Practice makes it easier – Read the story twice. First to enjoy, second to check the words you know.
Tip: Use simple words you already know (Tier 1 words). If you hear a new word, ask, “What does this word mean?” and look at the picture.
