Who was Marie Curie?

Marie Curie was a brave scientist who lived over 100 years ago. She was born Maria Skłodowska in Poland and later moved to France. She loved learning about science and became one of the most famous scientists ever.

What did she study?

Marie Curie studied a mysterious thing called radioactivity. This is when certain materials give off tiny, invisible sparks. She and her husband Pierre worked hard to understand how it happened and what it could be used for.

Big achievements

  • First woman to win a Nobel Prize in Physics (1903) for studying light and radiation.
  • First person to win Nobel Prizes in two different fields (Physics in 1903 and Chemistry in 1911).
  • She helped create techniques to study radioactive materials and showed that they could be used to help people, like in medicine.

Why is she important?

Marie Curie showed that curiosity, hard work, and perseverance can lead to amazing discoveries that help others. She also inspired many girls to love science and pursue their dreams.

Fun facts

  • She named a radioactive element polonium, after her home country, Poland.
  • She carried out experiments in a small, crowded lab, showing that big discoveries often start with careful, careful notes and experiments.

Maria Curie’s story reminds us that science needs brave people who ask questions and keep learning, even when things are hard.
