What is Time?

Time is a way of measuring how things happen in order. It helps us know what comes first, what comes next, and how long something lasts.

Parts of Time

  • Seconds: a very short moment, like blinking your eyes.
  • Minutes: a bit longer, like brushing your teeth for two minutes.
  • Hours: a longer part of the day, like afternoon or bedtime.
  • Days: a full rotation of the sun—one day from morning to the next morning.
  • Weeks: a group of seven days.
  • Months: a bunch of days inside, like January or June.
  • Year: when a lot of days pass and we start a new calendar year.

How We See Time

We use clocks and calendars to help us know what time it is and what day it is. A clock shows hours and minutes. A calendar shows days and months.

Fun, Simple Ways to Understand Time

  1. Clock tells us now: Look at the big hand and little hand to know the time.
  2. Routines help time pass: Things we do every day, like breakfast, playtime, and bedtime, help us know what happens next.
  3. Story time: When you finish a book in a certain number of days, you can see how long it took.

Why Time Helps

Time helps us plan, be on time, and remember how we spent our day. It makes the day feel organized and predictable.
