The hippopotamus, or hippo for short, is a big, heavy animal that has very thick skin. But did you know that hippos get really hot when they are out of the water in the sunshine? That's why they love to stay cool by getting into the water!

When a hippo gets into the water, it helps to cool down their body temperature. Water is like a cool blanket that helps hippos feel better when they're hot. They spend a lot of time floating or walking in the water because it keeps them nice and cool.

Also, hippos like to stay in the water to protect their skin. Their skin can get dry and cracked if they stay out in the sun too long. While they're in the water, they can relax, have fun, and even play with other hippos!

So, you see, the thick-skinned hippo loves to cool down in water to feel better and stay healthy!
