Introduction

Le Marche, often called Marche in English, is a region in central Italy, not a country. It has its own local government within the Italian state.

Geographically central on the Adriatic coast; its capital is Ancona, with other important towns like Pesaro, Urbino, Macerata, and Fermo.

How the regional government works

Italy's regions have a regional government (giunta regionale) headed by a president and a regional council (consiglio regionale). The president is elected by residents, and the council is elected to make regional laws and budgets.
