Making a Fun Paper Pinwheel

Making a paper pinwheel is a fun and easy craft project you can do with just a few materials. Let's go through the steps together!

What You Need:

  • A square piece of paper (any color you like!)
  • Scissors
  • A pencil with an eraser (this will be the handle)
  • A pushpin or a small nail
  • A ruler (optional)
  • A marker or colored pencils (optional for decoration)

Steps to Make Your Pinwheel:

  1. Cut the Paper: Start with your square piece of paper. If you like, you can use a ruler to measure a 6x6 inch square. Cut it out carefully.
  2. Decorate (optional): If you want your pinwheel to look extra special, use markers or colored pencils to decorate it before you cut any shapes.
  3. Make the Cuts: Now, make four cuts from each corner of the square towards the center, but don’t cut all the way to the middle. Leave about an inch from the center untouched.
  4. Pin the Corners: Take each of the corners you just cut and fold them towards the center of the square. Secure them together with your pushpin. They should all meet in the center to make the pinwheel shape.
  5. Attach the Pinwheel to the Pencil: Now, take that pushpin (with the corners attached) and gently push it into the eraser end of your pencil. Make sure it goes through the pinwheel so it can spin around easily.

Watch It Spin!

Now that you’ve finished your paper pinwheel, go outside and give it a blow! You should see it start turning in the wind. Enjoy your new craft!

Remember, you can make pinwheels in different sizes and colors. Have fun experimenting!
