What is gravity
Gravity is an invisible pull from the Earth that drags everything toward the center of the planet. It keeps us on the ground and helps us stay in place.
Why do things fall down
When you release a toy or a ball, gravity pulls it downward toward the ground. Even if you throw something up, gravity brings it back down.
Why not fall to the ceiling
The ceiling is above you, but gravity pulls toward the Earth's center, which is down. The whole room and the building are pulled down, so objects fall to the floor. If you turned upside down, the new floor would be below you and gravity would pull toward that direction.
A quick, safe activity
- Hold a toy and let go to watch it fall to the floor.
- Drop a ball and a feather in a calm room to notice how air changes the fall.
