Welcome to Stage 4 Geography

This lesson is designed for a 12 year old student studying Geography in Stage 4 NSW. We will explore how geographers think about places, how maps help us understand the world, and how people interact with the environment.

• Describe patterns and changes in environments
• Think about how places change over time and how to protect them

A simple home or class activity

1. Draw a simple map of your local area showing key features like a park, river, school and shops
2. Label each feature and note what makes it important
3. Find north using a compass or a smartphone
4. Write a short paragraph explaining the place using the five ideas place space environment interconnection

Hands on learning

Plan a small field study by visiting a park or street. Observe what people do there, take notes or photos, and discuss how the environment influences daily life.
