The Nativity is the Christian story of the birth of Jesus. The word “Nativity” means birth.

How the story is shared

  1. The Bible tells the story. Accounts of Jesus’ birth appear in the books of Matthew and Luke in the New Testament.
  2. People pass it on. Families and communities read the story, tell it, and share it with children over many generations.
  3. It inspires traditions. For many Christians, the Nativity is an important part of Christmas. Nativity scenes, songs, and plays often show people and events from the story.

This helps us understand how a story in a sacred book can shape a culture’s celebrations. People may celebrate Christmas in different ways, and the Nativity is especially meaningful to Christians.
