How Firefighters Respond to a Call

When someone calls for help because there is a fire or an emergency, firefighters jump into action! Here’s how they do it:

  1. Someone Calls: It all starts when a person calls 911. This is a special phone number that you can call if you need help. It goes to a dispatch center.
  2. Dispatch Receives the Call: Inside the dispatch center, there are people who answer the phone. They listen carefully and write down what the problem is.
  3. Firefighters Get the Message: The dispatch people tell the firefighters about the emergency. They say where to go and what the problem is, like if there is a fire in a house.
  4. Firefighters Jump Into Action: As soon as they hear the call, firefighters quickly put on their special clothes and gear to stay safe. This includes helmets, coats, and boots.
  5. They Hop on the Fire Truck: Firefighters run to their big fire truck, which has lights and loud sirens. They get in and drive really fast to the emergency, following traffic rules and being careful.
  6. Arriving at the Scene: When they get to where the emergency is happening, they see what’s wrong. They may have to put out a fire, help someone who is hurt, or do many other things to keep people safe.
  7. Doing Their Job: Firefighters work together as a team. They use hoses, water, and other tools to fix the problem. They make sure everyone is okay.
  8. Going Back: Once everything is safe, they get back in the fire truck and go back to the fire station, ready for the next call.

Firefighters are brave and trained to help us when we need it the most!
