The life cycle of a pumpkin is very interesting and happens in several steps. Let's go through each stage together!

  1. Seed: It all starts with a tiny seed. A pumpkin seed is usually hard and brown. When you plant it in the soil, it needs sunshine, warmth, and water to begin growing.
  2. Germination: After a little while, the seed absorbs water and starts to swell. Soon, a small root grows down into the soil, and a little sprout pushes up towards the sun. This is called germination.
  3. Seedling: The sprout is now a small plant called a seedling. It has a few tiny leaves, and it uses sunlight to make food. During this stage, the pumpkin plant needs a lot of water and care to grow strong.
  4. Vine: As the plant grows, it develops long, thick vines. These vines spread out and can grow very long! The leaves on the vine help gather sunlight, and the plant starts to get bigger.
  5. Flowering: After some time, the plant begins to grow bright yellow flowers. These flowers are important because they will turn into pumpkins later! Both male and female flowers appear, and bees help pollinate them.
  6. Fruit Formation: When the female flower is pollinated, it starts to grow into a small pumpkin. At first, the pumpkin is green and small, but it grows bigger and changes color to orange as it ripens.
  7. Harvest: Finally, when the pumpkin becomes a bright orange color and feels firm, it is ready to be picked! This is called the harvest stage. Many people enjoy carving pumpkins for Halloween or making yummy pumpkin pies!

And that's the life cycle of a pumpkin! From a tiny seed to a big, orange pumpkin, it’s a fun journey to watch!
