What is a Buoy?

A buoy is like a special floating sign that helps people on boats know where to go in the water. You can think of it like a big colorful ball that floats on the surface.

Why do we use buoys?

1. Guiding Boats: Buoys tell boats where it's safe to go and where they should not go, kind of like road signs for cars.

2. Warning Signs: Some buoys warn boats to stay away from rocks or shallow areas where they might get stuck.

3. Marking Special Places: Buoys can also mark places like swimming zones at a beach where people can have fun safely!

What do they look like?

Most buoys are bright colors like red, green, or yellow so they are easy to see. Some may even have lights or flags to be seen at night.

How do they stay in place?

Buoys are tied to the ground underwater with a long rope. This way, they don't float away, and they can always be found in the same spot!

Fun Fact:

Did you know that some buoys can even have a special gadget inside them to help boats know how deep the water is?

Buoys are super helpful for keeping everyone safe while enjoying the water!
