When we talk about Quetzalcoatlus, we're talking about one of the largest flying animals that ever lived! Imagine a bird, but a bird so big that it would make a jumbo jet look small. Quetzalcoatlus had a wingspan longer than a school bus – around 36 feet! That's longer than three cars parked next to each other. It was so big that if it stood next to a two-story house, it would have been taller than it!

Quetzalcoatlus lived a long, long time ago, during the time of the dinosaurs. It's funny to think of a giant flying creature like Quetzalcoatlus hanging out with the dinosaurs, isn't it? But it's true! Even though it lived at the same time as the dinosaurs, it wasn't a dinosaur itself. It was actually a type of flying reptile called a pterosaur.

Just like birds, Quetzalcoatlus had hollow bones to make its body light so it could fly. It probably soared above the ground looking for food, just like a big, feathery airplane. Instead of feathers, though, it had a leathery membrane stretched between its body and its super long finger bone – yeah, it's finger bone! It's like if your whole arm was a wing! Can you imagine gliding through the air with your arms outstretched for 36 feet?

Scientists think Quetzalcoatlus probably ate fish or scavenged for dead animals, kind of like a giant vulture. It might have also walked on its hind legs when it was on the ground. Just picture a creature as big as a giraffe walking around like a dinosaur bird – it's incredible! Even though Quetzalcoatlus lived so long ago, it's still teaching us new things about the amazing animals that shared our world in the past.
