What Was Florence Nightingale?

Florence Nightingale was a very special lady who lived a long time ago, from 1820 to 1910. She is best known for being a nurse, which means she took care of sick people.

During a big war called the Crimean War, many soldiers got hurt and were very sick. Florence went to help them. She was brave and worked hard, even when it was dark outside. She carried a lamp at night to check on the soldiers, which is why people sometimes call her 'the lady with the lamp.'

Florence wanted to make hospitals better and safer for patients, so she changed the way nurses worked. She taught them how to take care of people properly and made sure they had clean places to heal. Because of her, nursing became a respected job, and many people decided to help others by becoming nurses too!

So, when you think of being a nurse, remember that Florence Nightingale was a very important person who helped shape that job into what it is today!
