What is a World Map?
A world map is a picture of the Earth that shows all of the land and water in the world. It can help us understand where things are located, like countries and oceans.
Continents
The world map is divided into large pieces of land called continents. There are seven continents:
- North America
- South America
- Europe
- Africa
- Asia
- Australia
- Antarctica
Each continent has its own countries, cultures, and climates!
Oceans
Between the continents, there are big bodies of water called oceans. There are five main oceans:
- Pacific Ocean
- Atlantic Ocean
- Indian Ocean
- Southern Ocean
- Arctic Ocean
The oceans are important because they help connect the continents and are home to lots of marine life!
Using the Map
When you look at a world map, you can see all the continents in different colors and the oceans in blue. Maps can also show you things like major rivers, mountains, and cities. It's like a treasure map for the whole world!
