What are Phrases?

A phrase is a group of words that work together to make a meaning, but it doesn’t have a subject and a verb like a complete sentence does. Think of phrases as small pieces of a puzzle that help us communicate better.

Examples of Phrases:

  • In the park: This tells us where something happens, but it doesn't tell us who or what is doing anything.
  • Under the bed: This tells us a location but doesn't say what or who is involved.
  • Playing soccer: This shows an action, but it doesn’t tell us who is playing.
  • A big red balloon: This describes something (the balloon) but doesn't tell us what it's doing.

Why are Phrases Important?

Phrases help make our language rich and colorful! They can describe actions, places, or things, allowing us to express our thoughts more clearly.
