Owls are special birds that like to be awake when it’s dark outside. This is called being nocturnal. Just like you might play outside when the sun is shining, owls like to play and find their food at night.

They have big eyes that help them see really well in the dark, like having super night vision! This makes it easier for them to find small animals to eat, like mice and insects.

So, instead of sleeping like many other birds do when it’s nighttime, owls are busy flying around, hunting, and making soft sounds, which we call hooting.

Isn’t that cool? They are like little night-time superheroes!

how do owls hunt

Owls hunt at night. They sit very still on a branch and use their big eyes to see in the dark. Their ears hear tiny sounds like a mouse moving. Owls fly very quietly so animals don’t hear them. When they find a mouse or bug, they swoop down and grab it with strong feet called talons. Then they eat it to get energy. Want to pretend to be an owl and listen quietly like one?
