Butterflies have a special way of growing up that happens in four big steps called a life cycle. These steps are:

  1. Egg: Butterflies start as tiny eggs that are laid on leaves.
  2. Caterpillar (Larva): After a few days, the eggs hatch into caterpillars, which are small and hungry. They eat a lot.
  3. Pupa (Chrysalis): Next, the caterpillar makes a cozy shell around itself called a chrysalis. Inside, it is changing into a butterfly.
  4. Butterfly: Finally, it comes out of the chrysalis as a beautiful butterfly!

Now, what isn’t a part of a butterfly's life cycle? Things like being a fish or a bird are not part of how butterflies grow up. They only go through the egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly steps. So remember, things like 'being a dog' or 'swimming' are not part of a butterfly's life cycle!
